In a time when it seems big box stores are trying to retail every kind of product possible, we at Stewart Carpet Center have continued our focus on providing quality carpet in Yankton, SD while giving our customers what they want and getting the job completed in proper condition.
Welcome to Stewart Carpet Center, Yankton’s oldest exclusive flooring store. We have been in business since 1958 when Doyle and Dorothy Stewart opened their first store in downtown Yankton. Three years later, in 1961, they took a big gamble and built a brand new building at our current location at 1803 Broadway which at that time was on the very outskirts of town.
The naysayers told the Stewarts that people wouldn’t drive out of town to buy carpet! Fortunately, those predictions were wrong, and for over 50 years Stewart Carpet has built a reputation for offering quality products and personal service.
During that time there have been some changes in the business. In 1980, Doyle and Dorothy retired and sold the business to their son, Gregg and his wife, Mary Lee. In 1990, because of the popularity of hard surfaces in flooring, the Stewarts expanded their inventory to include other floor coverings such as wood, laminate, vinyl and tile.
One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the service they give customers in finding the best floor covering to match their needs. From the first visit to the store to the final day of installation, “the buck stops here.”
Gregg Stewart, the owner, has 40 years of carpet-laying experience and 20 years of vinyl installation, while his wife, Mary Lee, has 30 years of experience in customer service and product knowledge.
